Scarlett Johansson is back and more ready than ever for her return as the Black Widow (Nastaha Romanoff.) Following events from Captain America: Civil War this movie showcases Black Widow entirely solo. Directed by Kate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, Black Widow has been talked about and anticipated by thousands since the expected time of release last year. In the 24th movie of the MCU franchise Romanoff finds herself having to confront a dangerous force with ties to her past. She will have to deal with her history as a spy, as well as the relationships that were dealt a fatal blow long before The Avengers were a part of her life.
Since the release of the first look we got at the Black Widow trailer on December 3rd 2019 fans have been excited for the return of Black Widow, especially in a solo movie. In the first teaser we see Natasha Romanoff’s relationship with Yelena, but in the final trailer released on March 9th 2020 we see a more in depth connection with Romanoff, her family, and The Red Room. The Red Room, which was first seen in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, is a top secret soviet training program that brainwashes young girls into being assassins and spies. In the final trailer of Black Widow, it is found out that Taskmaster is the main antagonist and handles the brainwashing of a new team of soldiers.
On the production side of Black Widow, the film rights of Black Widow were bought by Lionsgate from Marvel in 2004 and announced David Hayter as the writer and director of the film. Unfortunately the project was dropped by Lionsgate and film rights went back to Marvel Studios. Hayter was utterly dissapointed by that turn of events and hoped that the film would be made some day. He was not alone in that thought. Ever since Black Widow made her way into the MCU, fans have been dying for her own movie.
Through 2009 and 2010 Scarlett Johansson made her way into the MCU and was signed to play the role of Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) and even discussed with the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige about her own standalone movie. Although The Avengers was their main priority at the time, Johansson was signed on for more and more movies as the fans of the MCU couldn’t get enough of her. With the popularity of Scarlett Johansson playing the Black Widow growing, fans of Marvel were just waiting for her own solo movie.
Anticipation surrounding this new film is immense, in addition to good hopes from MCU fans all over the world. Good hopes that the movie will go deep into detail about Natasha Romanoff’s backstory and the kinds of things she had to do, as well as how her past experiences affected the character she turned out to be in The Avengers. With the long awaited release of such a favorited avenger, its no surprise that people are excited for this film.
